Share Holding Insurance Company "VARDAR" Skopje was founded in 1968 as a small subdivizion (branch office) of ZOIL "Jugoslavija" and ZOIL "Belgrade", and after several years come this unit grew extensively and became a branch office with a status of a legal entity of the newly founded ZOIL "DUNAV" from Belgrade. In 1993 when republic of Macedonia gained its independence and became a sovereign country, the main branch office VARDAR Skopje was registered independently under the title – Share Holding Insurance Company VARDAR Skopje. However, with the new Decision no. 9623/94 from August 25, 1994 at the District Commercial Court Skopje, the Share Holding Insurance Company VARDAR was registered into Stock Company for Insurance VARDAR Skopje.
